KINTSUGI
Kintsugi is the 500-year-old Japanese tradition of embracing imperfections. It represents the art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold. The repair is celebrated (rather than hidden), promoting their philosophy of ‘being calm’ when a cherished piece of pottery breaks. Rather than discarding the broken object (wastefully) they elevate the repair with gold to reinforce the act of reinstatement. It is also designed to act as a (parallel) prompt to us about our need to similarly respect human fragility.
