There is No Folly of the Beast of the Earth which is not Infinitely Outdone by the Madness of Man

The title is a quote from Melville's Moby Dick. Three sailors sit atop a whale, which on the one side (rear) can be seen to be full of plastic. The sailors represent the 3 wise monkeys - See, Hear and Speak no Evil. It's a parody of oceanic plastic pollution and our attempts to ignore it.

Duck and Cover

Duck and Cover was the US equivalent of our Protect and Survive, a somewhat ludicrous Public Information Film about what to do in the event of a nuclear attack (something we thought that we had left behind in the 1980's. The sculpture is based on a cheap Chinese clockwork duck riding a tricycle but, instead of the head, I've replaced it with a hand grenade.

Steve Hall (b.1967) graduated from the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in 1988 having studied Ceramics and Sculpture.
