JOHN SMYTH

John Smyth was born in 1978. Grays School of Art, Aberdeen 1996-2000.
The naturalistic or realistic human form. John believes that the contrast between the highly disciplined pursuit of naturalistic figurative painting and the freedom of working with the dynamic interplay with abstraction provides balance on both a visual and conceptual level.

Chris Duncan (b.1989) studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (2007-2011).

He is a composer and musician (keybords, guitar and vocals - currently signed to FatCat Records).

He also paints (an interest stirred by his Album Covers). We were attracted by his alternative and modern vision of our landscape.

She gained her BA Communication Design from Musashini Art University, Tokyo in 1977. She also studied at Pilchuck Glas School, Seattle (1982 and 1987). She gained an MA in Ceramic and Glass from the Royal College of Art in London (1991). She studied Mixed Media in Bild-Werk Frauenau, Germany.

It makes reference to the potteries in Stoke on Trent where 1000s of female piece workers produced a vast range of decorative and ornamental ceramics/porcelain.

Search for Family Ties


In the early eighteenth century Chinese famille-rose was sometimes referred to as fence meaning foreign colour. Commonly a grren blue colour this work suggests the birds are still searching.

Emperor's Yellow


Emporer's Yellow makes reference to the Yellow used as the Emperor's colour in Imperial China. It is held as the symbolic colour of the five legendary Emperors of ancient China. Yellow often decorates Royal Palaces, Altars and Temples and the colour was used in the robes and attire of the Emperors.

Celadon Blue


Makes reference to Celadon blue glaze, which is a common glaze in Asia that was used to decorate carved porcelain. It was also used to glaze roof tiles on the palaces in Korea because porcelain was more valuable than gold.
