ROSANNE BARR
A BEAUTIFUL REFLECTION ON
SCOTLAND
Barr (b.1981) is one of a powerful group of leading-edge, modern landscape artists (including Brander and Naismith).
Barr is a country girl (Gartocharn) whose parents now spend time on Orkney. which is the source of much landscape inspiration for Barr.
In one of the most intensively-competed areas in contemporary art (landscape), she has found her own artistic voice and language. Modernity is not about the literal. Rather, Barr lifts the important
compositional elements from a scene to communicate a mood and sense of beauty, without unnecessary prosaic embellishment (stunning west coast sunsets, horizons, water, rock formations, remoteness,
the varied climatic conditions and yachts).
Barr has susccessfully carved out a highly successful position for herself in contemporary landscape paintng. If you meet the person, very often, you can understand the paintings. Barr has a lovely aura about her and that stamps itself all over her paintings. Her paintings are characterful, charming, positive and pleasing - when you stand in front of them you get a sense of authority and a soothing calmness that draws you in.
