The gallery is very lucky to have access to a NEW BODY OF WORK by the artist Simon Laurie RSW RGI.
Simon is one of the leading proponents of abstraction within Scotland. His art form is at the vanguard of modernism within Scottish Contemporary art, which makes him one of the most important artists
of this period.
Abstraction represents the natural (long term) progression from impressionism (the turning point in modern art) where more and more detail was extracted (abstracted) from traditional artistic
(realist) representation.
This approach could be considered the 'high art' of contemporary painting, to be enjoyed by a sophisticated art appreciator who does not require all the obvious elements of a more traditional
representation/symbolism - including perspective, identifiable objects and colour to satisfy a retinal narrative. Rather. the artist ignores any literal description, concentrating on only
core/organic shapes and form/textures that trigger a deeper 'more instinctive' response from the viewer. We like it, but we don't necessarily know why ! Our reaction is about instincts rather than
logic. In that regard the enjoyment process can mimic human existence !
NOTE - this type of wall statement art is likely to appeal to individuals who are expressively confident and those that do not consider themselves as normal/ordinary.
Perfect artwork to start to form/re-shape and modernise/re-mix an art collection.
