NEW DAWN SPENCE
Dawn graduated Hons in Contemporary Art Practice (2015-2019).
Spence's powerful abstracts reflect her reaction to the pain (loss), joy, peace and faith in her life. Her style draws on her observations on the impermanent beauty of FLOWING WATER (when on a trip to Venice) and her use of contrasting colour schemes creates an energetic and emotionally charged expression, bringing a sense of organic beauty to any wall environment.
Eternal Bliss illustrates the battle we all face when dealing with the death of a loved one.
This painting deals with having faith that, ultimately we end up in a better place; a place of 'Eternal Bliss'.
Having gone through the sudden loss of a sibling last year, I strived to create something that shows a whirlwind of emotion. Although my heart is sucked into a chaos of grief, this piece
illustrates my ultimate hope of 'Eternal Bliss', hanging onto a thread that 'it'll be alright'.
With flowing streams, vibrant colours and tearing textures, I hope you feel my raw emotion through this piece.
The painting describes a time in my life which was fasy paced; in a new place; starting a new job; stepping into a new journey, where so many external influences were trying to distract me. 'Against the Grain' depicts my attempt at tunnel vision. Maintaining my unique style, this piece illustrates a river (me) flowing full stream (steam) ahead through a jungle of urban shades (Glasgow's red sandstone tenements) using linear dimensions with organic flow.
